Back in the chill of mid-February, two tire repair pros, Ozimar and Lindomar Queiroz, stumbled upon a rather unexpected sight at their spot on Estrada do Belmont, in the northern part of Porto Velho. They arrived earlier than usual to find a lone dog by the roadside. This little guy was all skin and bones, with bare paws and no means to wander.
Ozimar, often called Galego, didn’t think twice before he took it upon himself to nurse the pup back to health, hoping a warm home would come calling. But 20 days breezed by, and this four-legged friend was still without a family. Galego mentioned the sad reality: the pooch had been abandoned right in front of their shop, front legs twisted, immobilized. Yet, with a heart full of compassion, Galego and his crew have been offering meals and tender care.
They named the dog Seal, owing to his spot near the tire board where he stays put, paws outstretched. The mechanics move him around throughout the day, yet Seal, always looking for company, drags himself through the dirt to mingle with the local stray cat. Lindomar points out that Seal, ever so gentle, really needs some medical help they can’t provide. Despite his rough start and muddy looks, the tire shop team has watched over Seal, who, though scrawny on arrival, has now plumped up. Rain or shine, they don’t mind the mess. The tale of the abandoned dog has rippled through social media. But there’s a silver lining. After nearly three weeks under the care of these compassionate tire repairmen, Foca—as they affectionately named him—has been swept up into a new, loving home with a couple from Porto Velho. They kept his belly full and his spirits high. Although they picked out his first name, his new human, Michele, has welcomed him into her life, and with a new name to boot.
