Honestly, I was initially doubtful about Hansel and Gretel’s chances of survival when I first encountered them. Their gums looked pale and the odor emanating from their mouths was quite unpleasant. These poor pups were being constantly drained of blood by a multitude of ticks. They were so weak that they could barely even open their eyes, instead opting to cry continuously. Despite all of this, the two puppies were deeply connected to one another and their innocence was heartwarming. Though they were safe in my care at the time, their journey towards full recovery was far from over.
To be honest, there isn’t much to report. Watching Hansel and Gretel broke my heart – they were clearly struggling. They refused to eat, were suffering from diarrhea, and had become so despondent that they couldn’t even bear to look up. Fortunately, our treatment program began more than a week ago, and we’ve been working tirelessly to nurse them back to health.
Despite their hardships, Hansel and Gretel are fighters. I’m confident that with a collaborative effort, we can help them overcome this challenge. During one of their recent baths, I was shocked to see just how damaged their scales, skin, and hair had become. But with time, love, and care, I’m hopeful that they’ll make a full recovery.
At times, I have experienced a sense of helplessness that made me contemplate giving up. However, if I were to do so, who would attend to the needs of these adorable puppies? Despite my efforts, there are instances where rough spots tend to become apparent. In such cases, I find myself in need of soap, specialized body wash, and soft baby shirts to ensure that their delicate skin remains unscathed. Additionally, I provide them with sleeping pads and canned puppy food that is easy on their tummies to supplement their nutrition. Thankfully, Hansel and Gretel continue to enjoy their meals without any complications.
Canines are more than just pets, they can become our trusted companions who exhibit unwavering loyalty. However, despite their open affection, dogs may also be susceptible to vulnerability at times. It can be distressing to witness these creatures experience any form of distress or pain. Fortunately, Hansel and Gretel’s struggles are now a thing of the past as they have a promising future ahead of them.
